Working on this project are:

Professor Colin Snape
Project Coordinator
With over 30 years of experience working on many aspects of carbonisation and solid fuels, together with biochar characterisation, Colin has led many EU, UK Government and research council projects including directing two Centres of Doctoral Training. He has played a prominent role coordinating energy research at Nottingham and across the Midlands universities, leading to the establishment of the Energy Research Accelerator in 2017 and now The Biochar Demonstrator.

Dr ChengGong Sun
Associate Professor in Chemical Engineering and has 20 years of research experience on clean coal & biomass technologies, fluidized beds, catalysis & adsorption materials for clean energy production, chemical & environmental process chemistry. He has considerable industrial research experience including 2 years at Doosan Power Systems as a Senior Combustion Engineer and has published over 100 research papers.

Dr Lee Stevens
Based at the University of Nottingham, Lee has worked on adsorbents for 10 years and has over 40 publications.

Prof. Y. Huang
Professor of Clean Coal Technologies at Ulster University. He has 30 years’ experience with scenario analyses of fossil fuel combustion. He has wide experience in establishing multi-partner collaborative projects to develop and exploit fossil fuel and biomass/waste technologies, covering all aspects of techno-economic analysis and life cycle assessment studies. He also has extensive experience of coal gasification, including defining Carbon Capture and Storage strategies. He has worked on a number of projects in the area of clean coal technologies and renewable energy applications funded by the EU, SFI and the EPSRC, etc.

Dr Stephan Hüffer
Expert in cationic polymers and polyethyleneimine (PEI), coordination lead for BASF also coordinating tests of other additives, complexing, agents, surfactants and emollients, antioxidants.

Dr Ivette Garcia Castro
RAM/I, R&D Expert alkoxylation of (poly)amines (PEI); her lab team delivers the alkoxylated PEI samples at 2 kg scale for the identification and confirmation of the lead species.

Dr Tobias Merkel
